Most people that are attracted to Network Marketing are following rules by people that find this stuff easy. People who can easily talk to strangers, people who can do presentations, people who love to run adds on the newspaper… People that are natural born salespeople. All these things come natural to them, they’re just being who they are. They’re just doing what is natural to them.

The problem arises when they try to change everybody else to be like them and expect everybody else to change.

They DO walk in shadows, searching for light… They go to their upline or the company to ask for support, direction and guidance, but constantly get referred back to those old useless sales techniques.

“Great! Just 99 more “NO”s and you’ll get lucky!”

“ It’s a numbers game.”

“You must close the sale.”

“Work harder.”

“Get committed.”

“Be serious about your business.”

Put your life on hold and get focused.”

Sooner or later Networkers clearly see it doesn’t work for most of the people, so they resign themselves to the fact that is something wrong with them.

These natural born sellers, Heavy Hitters, will tell you that Network Marketing is a Sales Business. It’s NOT!

Network Marketing is a teaching and mentoring business. Your product is People. So study people. Find out how you can help them reach their dreams.

People join people. They don’t join companies. People don’t care that the president of your company is a family man and has 3 or 4 families to prove it.

Build People. People will build the business. If you treat them like a number, you have no future in Network Marketing.

To Succeed long-term, you need to become a mentor with a Servant’s heart. When you do, people will ask you to PLEASE sponsor them into your business.

What separates Losers from Winners is the Loser’s compulsive need for immediate gratification. Losers can be reluctant to invest their time, effort and money in advance unless they can be assured of an immediate return.

Winners on the other hand, are willing to pay the price in advance, knowing they can only receive in direct proportion to what they are willing to extend.

The fire of desire.

The willingness to expand time, money and energy to have what you want requires strong Desire. The more you Desire to go from being a Loser or a Non-Winner to a Winner, the less likely you’ll accept anything else.

When Desire meets opportunity, exciting things begin to happen! If you’ve never been able to accept this, it’s without a doubt because you’ve been concentrating on something else. Maybe you’ve allowed yourself to become preoccupied with a lot of negative input, all the “reasons” why something may not work.

Negative thoughts generate fear, anxiety and discouragement. Once you allow these negative thoughts to become your dominant beliefs, you are literally sabotaging your ability to become a Winner.

Desire, on the other hand, is a creative force. It helps you to accept what you want to accomplish and it inspires enthusiasm.

Opportunities or Obstacles

By nature, we are not victims but creators and all creation begins with Belief. In this case, if you believe something will work, you’ll see the opportunities. If you believe something will not work, you’ll see obstacles.

In his book, "Betting on Yourself", Dr Robert Anthony said that, if you’re determined to create a rewarding Network Marketing Business, to succeed on your relationships and to enjoy a sense of emotional well-being, keep reading so you can learn how to become a Winner in all these areas.

The path to winning is reasonably straight. There are however a number of obstacles that need to be overcome along the way.

Winning is an Attitude.

To understand what it takes to beat the odds against losing, you must first understand what it takes to be a winner.

Contrary to popular belief, winning is not a matter of luck. Winning is an Attitude.

For the purpose of this study, Dr. Robert Anthony divided the general population into 3 specific categories:

1. Winners

2. Losers

3. Non-Winners

Winner- This is a person who has what he wants. He achieves whatever he sets out to accomplish.

Loser- This one is someone who doesn’t have all he wants but has good “reasons” why he doesn’t have it. He feels he’s a victim of people, circumstances and conditions. He blames everyone and everything for his current situation in life.

Non-Winner- This is a person who is willing to do whatever it takes to be a Winner but who lacks the necessary knowledge and skills to go from where he is to where he wants to be. He doesn’t blame family, friends and some historical event in his life, nor does he blame himself. He realizes that through great knowledge and desire he can make some significant changes. Recognizing his present situation as a temporary one, he’s willing to do whatever is necessary to get on the path that leads to winning.

It you’re not presently a Winner, you are either a Loser or a Non-Winner. As a Loser, you cannot have what you want until you are willing to take the First Step.

This requires giving up all excuses or “reasons” for not having what you want. It also means no longer identifying with or attempting to justify your “victim” status. Once a Loser is able to do this, he will automatically move up into a Non-Winner category. As a Non-Winner, it now becomes possible to practice and eventually master the necessary skills to become a Winner.

A couple years ago, a good friend of mine, recommended the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. I am a mom of a boy and a girl, and for years I struggled to have more money each month. My husband and I have tried to save for years, yet no amount of budgeting or cutting back on what we spent seemed to help our vicious cycle.

Like any parents, we wanted to be able to leave our children with a strong legacy. As far as character, family and faith go, we were right on track. But leaving our children a financial legacy, well, that was a different story.

Thank goodness I read this book. Robert Kiyosaki uncovers his true life story about his two Dads… each one with a completely different perspective on money. One had a "RICH" mindset and one had a "POOR" mindset. I found it fascinating to read how his rich Dad dropped out of school at 13 and was one the most wealthy men in Hawaii. On the other hand, his poor Dad had a PhD and a Superintendent of Education but never had enough money to make it to the end of the month and died "broke"     

Kiyosaki’s "poor" Dad told him the reason he wasn’t rich was because he had kids.

His" rich" Dad told him the reason he must be rich is because he had kids.

One told him to study hard so he could find a good company to work for…

The other told him to study hard so he could find a good company to buy. The book is filled with examples like this.

Although hard work and an education are a great asset, they can be even more valuable if they are mixed with the "rich" mindset. Whether you ever read the book or not, you should still take the time to evaluate what your own mindset is. If you’re like me, you’ll grab hold of the "Rich Dad" mindset, feel completely driven and there’ll be no turning back whatsoever.

Read books on self-development. Listen to educational cd’s while you drive.

Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune. J. Rohn.

Most people have heard of, or read the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Personally, I am a huge fan of the book and have read and studied it many times.

Napoleon Hill spent many years interviewing the most successful people of the time and then compiled the information into the book.

Think and Grow Rich is just exactly as the title suggests. Think and Grow Rich. Not only moneywise, but also rich in thoughts, ideas, how to take action to reach your goals and dreams.

To get good at what you do you have to Take Action. Don’t try to figure out the HOW to do it before you start. Just take the first step. It’s ok to fail. Practice makes perfect. The HOW will come to you along the way.

~Networking can be an overwhelming project for people who are used to networking on the internet variety. If you’re an introverted person who is most comfortable communicating by typing, I suggest you to come out of the comfort zone and look into some ~Networking.

Yes, I’m talking face-to-face networking.

The extroverts are secretly just as daunted as you are. And the good news is ~ networking is a skill that can be learned.

All it takes is a little practice, dear friend.

So here are some of the very best tips to get you started. Even the most shy people can get by with a few simple tricks:

1. Pick your events wisely
Networking groups are popping up all over the globe that are meant specifically for Bloggers, Tweeters, Diggers and every other social networking and bookmarking site you can think of.
These are an ideal start because not only are they relevant to you and what you do, but EVERY other person there will talk your language.

2. Go alone
Being social in Real Life is a different story to being social Online. It can be scary, standing alone in a room full of people that you don’t know at all. It may be tempting to take a friend for moral support, but if you think you can do it on your own, then go for it. Chances are, if you take a friend then – you’ll end up speaking to your friend all night while eying off the rest of the room suspiciously, wondering whether you should make your move or not.

3. Stand out from the crowd!
In a room full of people, you want to be noticeable (in a good way!) when people are scanning the room for who to talk to next. They say first impressions count, and that they are also very hard to change. These impressions are literally made in three seconds flat – and in those three seconds people will decide whether they want to talk to you, or not.
What can you do to stand out in the right way? Try making a particular effort to look polished and professional,  or to wear something that will act as a talking point: a  slogan t-shirt, a niece piece of jewelry or something  fun that relates to your blog or online content. This gives people something to anchor to when they open a conversation. Try it, and you’ll be surprised at how many people will come up to you through the night and say “I love your t-shirt/shoes/jewelry,etc.”

4. Use your biggest asset – a friendly smile!
The quickest, most effective way of disarming someone is to smile at them. Immediately, their instinct is to mirror you back and in most cases, a smile enough to engage them  enough to approach for a conversation.
That said, just don’t openly stare at them, smiling, for a full five minutes. That’s a little strange. A quick smile and acknowledgment across the room is a perfect opener.

5. Don’t be afraid to approach others.
Remember – everyone is there for the specific purpose of meeting other people! Preferably, to meet lots of other people.
This means you won’t look at all like a total weirdo by walking up to someone and introducing yourself. You don’t even need a pickup line – something as simple as “Hi, I’m Bob. What do you for a living?” will get the ball rolling. Alternatively, use a compliment as your opening line. (this works particularly well for girl-to-girl conversations – “I love your necklace/shoes/dress, etc”, as per before, works both ways.)

6. Talk about their favorite subject.
There’s one topic that everyone loves: Themselves.
The easiest way for you to have a great conversation with someone is to talk all about them. What do they do? How do they like it? How did they fall into that? How long have they been doing it for? Where do they live? Do they love living there? Are they married? Do they have children?
The conversation doesn’t all need to be about business. It’s inevitable that you’ll cover it a little bit, but don’t keep steering the conversation that way.

7. Follow up.
Networking is useless if you never speak to the people you meet again. The art of the follow up is invaluable. Get business cards, URLs and user names for every person you speak to and connect with them or contact them the next day.
Something as simple as a direct message to say “It was nice to meet you” is great. Be proactive about following up – don’t just wait for people to contact you.

8. Give, and you shall receive.
One golden rule I love – be useful to people. Don’t expect to get something for nothing. If you can recommend services or other contacts for them, send them articles that you think they might like or just entertain them in general, then you can start asking for favors back.

Be prepared to put in the work to build a relationship and you will reap the rewards of a strong and health network of Real Life People.

A Mentor with a Servant’s Heart

For some reason, people always want to associate social networking with the ability to sell something when we should take all social networking at its face value.

It’s about socializing, not about selling stuff to your friends.

Can you imagine that in your day-to-day social life, every time someone says "hi" to you, you hand them a brochure or try to sell them something:

"Hey, Jim, how’s it going? I haven’t seen you for a while."

"Bill, great to see you, too. You can’t imagine what a terrific deal I have for you for term life. I mean these prices cannot be beat!"

Can you imagine your entire life being tied to commerce?

"Joe! Hi! How’s the wife? I have a discount coupon for you for the next time you rent from Dollar. Ten percent off, buddy!"

"Frank! Thanks, but that’s nothing. Have you thought about buying your steaks from Omaha Beef? Here’s a special code. Fifteen percent off your first order!"

Obviously this is not the way friends interact. So why are they going to suddenly interact online like that?

Understanding that they won’t is understanding the Achilles heel of commercializing social networking.

People on social-networking sites, whether Facebook or MySpace or Twitter, are networking to connect with people, not products. It can’t go over too well if you are seen online only to exploit your friends.

Now, that doesn’t mean that independent rock bands with fans or artists with collectors cannot have pages on social-networking sites to promote and sell their products. A modest amount of that is tolerated and perceived as a legitimate outlet.

Make no mistake, the Internet and social networks will definitely broaden a market for anyone with something to sell. And it’s quite inexpensive to use the mechanism. But many aspects of it are quite overrated.

And just see how unpopular your social-networking home page becomes once you start spamming all your followers and friends with endless sales pitches and spam. Nobody is there for that.

That said, find people to network with, no agenda, people with common interests, get them talking about their interests and passions, ask them what they do for a living. Make friends, friends for life. That’s what Social Networking is all about.

A company may have the greatest products and the best pay plan on the planet, but if it is lacking any of the Five Pillars, you could lose EVERYTHING overnight.  Your income and Reputation are at stake.    
   

Pillar #1.  Company Management Experience with Integrity.

Does the company management have personal experience building their own networking organization? Have they done it with Integrity?

Leadership. Greed and Ego are the most common reasons every time we have ever seen a company go away, shut down.

True leaders are Mentors with a Servant’s Heart.
It’s never about the money. No Money Focus = No
Greed. It’s not about them. It’s about People. And people will build the business.

Pillar #2. Products
Are the company’s Products timed with the beginning of a massive trend of consumer demand?

In this industry if your product is not remarkable, you are invisible.

You need a product people will buy even if there was no compensation plan attached to it. You need a system for your people to retail product to the consumer. 

Pillar #3. Timing!                                                                                         Has the company passed the "early failure" Time Line? 
Most people don’t make money in the first two years while the company is dealing  with start-up issues.

Avoid companies which have passed beyond their "momentum phase" and have  become household names.

There should be no rush to get in on the "ground floor"

If you can find a company like this, and which also has the other
4 pillars in place, it will be much easier to succeed’

Pillar #4.  Compensation Plan

95% of networkers are part-time people. 
Make sure that people can make a decent income working a few hours per week.
Beware of companies that advertise how many millionaires they have created.

The purpose of any business is moving product from the company to the end-consumer. 
The majority of your commissions MUST come from product sales; otherwise, it is a SCAM.

If you are making only 5% to 8% commissions on product, You are being extremely underpaid.

Pillar #5.  Proven Duplicatable System
Does your Mentor offer a System for Success that will work for You?

The team you join must have a system in place that will work for everyone who uses it. 

There must be complete resources available; books, videos and audios explaining the system.

The system should be designed to Teach The System!
Remember, you want to build your business, Not baby-sit it.

If you don’t see the system working for you right away, don’t try to reinvent the wheel. As in everything we do in life there is a learning curve.  Plug in and be patient.

Personal development should have a big emphasis in the system. This is a relationship business, the more you know about yourself, the better you’ll relate to your clients and customers.

• DO NOT MAKE A LIST OF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. 
• DO NOT BUY LEADS. 
• Purchased leads require salesmanship. These methods do not work anymore.
    90% of our population are NOT good salespeople.
    Not only that, most people don’t even like salespeople.
